Targeted optogenetic manipulation of Cortical Spreading Depression
Targeted functional modulation of neuronal activity is possible by using opto/chemogenetics. I controlled the induction and propagation of cortical spreading depression (CSD) in two mouse lines. First, modulating excitatory neuronal activity with a ChR2:Nex line for optogenetic induction, and second, regulating inhibitory neuronal activity with ArChaer:Nex line for optogenetic inhibition of propagation. This animal model is useful to test pharmacological compounds like neurosteroids and their effects on CSD and brain activity.
